“My goal is to ‘to catch the eye,” to surprise, almost stupefying and shattering the observer who, when gazing at the painting, recognizes something within that was not expected – a revealing and intimate experience:  holding both surprise and recognition.  I believe that all ways to achieve this are valid:  conventional motifs or those that could be considered strange; everything works.”

Before becoming a painter, Gilles Blosseville tried his hand at various crafts.  Initially he worked with ceramics for about a dozen years:  working at the potter’s wheel and with the wood stove, and preparing ash-glazed Japanese enamel, allowed him to master shapes and materials.  Later, for about 15 years, he worked in the audiovisual domain, as a cameraman, and then as a scriptwriter, and finally as a director of advertising clips and documentaries:  this work evolved around the senses.  He has continued in this domain by teaching audiovisual writing and multimedia at L’Université de La Rochelle.

Therefore, at the crossroads where material, colour, and senses meet, Gilles found painting:  creating works of art that are expressive and inspired and in which each one of us has a chance of recognizing ourself…
